{Design} A notebook for architects by A:LOG

Get sketching.
Three architecture students from Columbia University have developed a notebook specially designed with architects in mind. The notebook has 130 pages of ready to be drawn on pages with lightly dotted grids  at 4 different scales 1:200, 1:100, 1:50 & 1:25. It is the only notebook with all 4 scales. It also exists in metric and imperial editions.

Order on A:LOG or check out their Kickstarter page to support them.

I have recently found this very affordable version of the same principle and it comes in loads of different colours. Enjoy.

{Graphics} Six Architects | Posters by Andrea Gallo

I love these 6 minimal architectural graphics by Andrea Gallo. Aren't they beautiful and simple, yet so evocative? His crisp black and white graphics simplify and recreate the work of some of modern architecture’s most famed structures — from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum to Louis Kahn’s National Assembly Building in Bangladesh. Check them out, and let us know in the comments which one you’d like to hang on your walls.

{Art} Architecture in film: Archicine by Federico Babina

Artist and illustrator Federico Babina has come up with  a fun new series, ARCHICINE, representing iconic works of architecture that have played protagonists on filmThe architectural space in the film is not just a background but becomes as an added protagonist. Movies have the ability to transport us to different worlds and lives and let us live and breathe real or fantastic architecture.

Two of my favourite things | movies & architecture | are combined here in illustration. I’ve rounded up some of the illustrations below, so  check them out and let me know which is your favourite! I am torn between Le mepris & Mon oncle.
Where possible, I have tried to credit the architect and location of the building.

{Art} All the buildings in New York by James Gulliver Hancock

This post is to showcase some of James Gulliver Hancock's illustrations. Originally from Australia, this New Yorker has set himself the task to draw all the buildings in New York. I love the idea and the colours he uses in his sketches, they remind me of super hero comic books from my childhood.
You can see more of his great illustrations in his book All the Buildings in New York: That I've Drawn So Far.
Check out his blog also, you could place your own order of a drawing of your favourite NYC building...

This book would be a great gift for anyone who love New York City and drawing!

{Interiors} Hexagonal floor tiles for an Italian apartment

I love these floor tiles! Each room has a different tiled floor of unglazed porcelain hexagonal tiles; the basic theme carries throughout the flat, but with a variation in the pattern for each space when walking over a black threshold. Design is by Architects Grooppo renovated a flat in an 1870s building in Savona, Italy.

{Architecture} A garage with a view

“Garagenatelier” is James Bond's garage in Herdern, Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland. It offers spaces for 8 cars, 4 of which get “a room with a view”. The volumes are embedded in the hillside and have natural daylight coming from above via lightwells. I love the juxtaposition of nature and the geometric concrete structures. Something to keep in mind when I will one day design our home in Switzerland.
